What is the Thematic MCP Server?

It is a server that brings Thematic into the AI tools you already use, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot. It gives those tools access to the data and tools inside Thematic, like the Waterfall Chart and Deep Dive, which they can use alongside everything else they can already do.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI tools to data and services.

Which AI tools work with it?

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, and any MCP-compatible agent. If your team uses an MCP-capable tool we have not listed, it will still connect, and if a new one appears that needs support, we will add it. We have setup instructions for the major tools in our help center, including notes for Copilot where it may need to route through your organization’s IT governance.

Is my data shared with the AI provider?

No. The MCP Server runs on Thematic’s own infrastructure. Your data is not shared with Anthropic, Microsoft, or any other model provider, and it is not used to train any model. Your data also stays in your region, with separate servers for the US, EU, and ANZ.

Who can see my data through the MCP?

Access is gated by your Thematic login. To connect the MCP you enter your own Thematic credentials, and you can only query the data your account already gives you access to, scoped to your organization. Connecting it does not open your data to anyone else.

Will it make up quotes or numbers?

Answers are pulled straight from your Thematic data, not generated from thin air. Every theme, score, and quote traces back to the raw customer comments behind it, so what your AI returns stays grounded and auditable.

Does adding it need a new security review?

It may, for regulated or enterprise customers, but it is usually quick, and most teams who have deployed an MCP have not needed a fresh review. We can provide a written technical and security overview to support your data-governance or AI-council process.

How do I set it up?

Setup takes minutes and needs no engineering project. You connect the server to your own Claude or Copilot instance, in the desktop app or the browser, the same way you would add any custom MCP connector. SSO, including Okta, is supported. Note that Copilot may require admin-level permissions or routing through your IT team. The step-by-step guide is in our help center.

Do I need to be a Thematic customer?
